THE CRYSTAL MAZE

The Challenge
C3 were approached to design and create the Technical AV and automation of the new Crystal Maze Live Experience in London.  The site is based in 22,500 square foot office building near Angel Tube station.  The building came with it’s own challenges including power availability, rigging points and old wiring.  We also had create a simple user friendly show control interface integrated with Qlab to deliver consistent and smooth running of back to back shows including feedback of the status of the show and cues.  Along with a system to communication with the Crystal Dome via RS-232 to trigger lighting, sound and automation of the Dome.

The Solution
Using our in house automation programing specialist we developed a node.js server integrated with Qlab to provide a simple web based control system that controls all technical aspects of the show controlled remotely within the venue.  A RS-232 Serial server was used to communicate between Qlab and the Crystal Dome allowing all lighting and sound to be triggered from a simple control panel automating the whole experience. Qlab is used to run and automate the entire venue allowing on-site staff to focus on providing an amazing live experience.  We had a amazing time working with the Crystal Maze team to deliver their product from planning to production.

“and the sound of well-cued Crystal Maze music – it was just like being on the show.” - Metro

“What quickly became apparent was the impressive set design. I expected it to feel a bit thin, but it’s incredibly well thought out. The Aztec zone was actually warmer…” - The Guardian
