Case Study

SHAKESPEARE'S GLOBE

The challenge
The Globe continues to run foreign language performances and have a need for clearly visible English surtitles. However not only does the medieval-designed venue have very limited technical and rigging capabilities, but also the architectural experience for the audiences could not be compromised. The usual solutions were not suitable and so a bespoke system was required.

The solution
Our video team designed a bespoke small format, high contrast LED display system that could be attached to the few available rigging points in the roof structure. The display control system could accept documents from the incoming theatre companies and also allowed real-time cueing of the displayed text.

Services supplied

As part of our venue support services, our project manager worked closely with the in-house technical department to identify and analyse suitable solutions. Our rigging team efficiently installed the display system and trained the theatre companies in the control system. The run of shows was so successful that the theatre has introduced an ongoing program of foreign-language performances. C3 continues to support the venue with its technical requirements and regularly installs an improved version of the subtitle system.
