The Challenge
The crowd numbers were hugely variable from estimates of 350,000 to 1 million (which was the final number). Contingency for this variation needed to be included in terms of the site map and equipment needed. The brief included placing a number of screens along the route of the march, providing site plans and determining strategic locations for sound/ visual elements. Specific equipment and licences for transmitting video and sound locally within a 2 mile radius needed to be sourced and powered. There was a tight schedule for the event that had to fit between the road closure and deployment of equipment/ build throughout the route. The tight turnaround meant all aspects of testing; audio, visual, screen, public address systems, power, satellite relay for video and sound had to be up and running as soon as the roads were closed.
The Solution
C3 coordinated delivery of all aspects of the rallies, pre production, sourcing large deployable LED truck stages and screens capable of transmitting wirelessly transmissions from ofcom. 20 technicians were deployed and briefed for the schedule of road closures, working closely with TFL, MET police and the fire brigade. No rehearsal was possible due to the scale of the event and so everything was tested off site, ensuring transmission would not be interrupted by the variables in the number of public attending rallies. Sound design included highly intelligible long throw public address systems which were provided by L’Acostics. Video and audio mixing was provided from the Outside Broadcast ADI i60s Production Unit.
